Cockatoo Island is the largest island in Sydney Harbour and is one of Sydney’s great places to visit – big, surprising and entertaining. It’s a former imperial prison, industrial school, reformatory and gaol.
Cockatoo Island is a great place to appreciate the harbour with magnificent views of the harbour bridge, the city skyline and the wonderful juxtaposition of headlands, suburbs and water.
Where else can you camp so close to the city, or stay overnight in the former dockyard managers' beautifully restored Federation houses. Take an audio tour and learn about the amazing stories that make up the history of the island.
Two recently refurbished heritage houses are available for short term lettings. The houses sleep up to 10 people and are decked out with all the creature comforts.
This site is one of the 11 Australian Convict Sites listed as World Heritage. In Sydney there are four convict sites.
